“Come Luna”, the organic wine that follows the phases of the moon
Share
A truly authentic, distinctive organic wine. This is ComeLuna, a red without sulphites and made with natural molecules, born from our constant wish to experiment in the way we make our wines.
Certified by Sidel Bio and Mipaaft, it follows the philosophy of sustainability, food safety and promotion of native grape varieties behind our Albea Land supply-chain project.
It is made from Uva di Troia (85%) and Primitivo (15%) from the Albea Land vineyards between Andria and Sammichele. The vines are trained on a Guyot trellis, with an average density of 3,200 plants per hectare.
It is the result of scientific research carried out with the University of Bari.
Why the phases of the moon matter
For thousands of years the phases of the moon have guided farming and rural work. At Cantina Albea we chose to follow this natural rhythm to make this wine.
From pruning to harvest, everything follows the phases of the moon, which affect the difference in pressure between the roots and the part of the plant above ground and, as a result, the uptake and movement of nutrients.
Fertilising takes place at full moon, which helps the plant absorb nutrients in a balanced way. Treatments with copper sulphate and sulphur (Bordeaux mixture) are applied in the first quarter of the new moon, when the leaves retain and absorb them better. The soil is worked during the waxing moon, which helps oxygenate and warm the surface layers.
Pruning is done during the waning moon, when the sap flow is lower and so is the bleeding, the loss of sap from wounds; this helps the cuts heal and protects the plant from parasites and rot.
Finally, the harvest is done by hand into wooden crates in the last quarter of the moon, to preserve the quality of the grapes.
Winemaking
The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 7 days at 25-27 °C, with maceration and few pump-overs to limit contact with oxygen.
Ageing takes place during the waxing moon, to preserve the wine's sensory profile as it matures. The bouquet is enriched through contact with toasted oak, without barrique ageing.
The sensory profile of ComeLuna
It has varietal fruity and spicy notes. On the palate it is structured, soft and full-bodied, with marked tannins and an elegant, persistent finish. Its alcohol content is 13.5% vol.
To enjoy all its qualities, serve it at 18-20 °C in a large balloon glass, so that its aromas can open up.
Comeluna red is a truly versatile wine: it pairs with meat dishes such as roasts, steaks and stews.
